Call for Papers!
In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, the Research Center for International Criminal Law and International Humanitarian Law (RCICL) at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) will hold an international symposium in Beijing in September 2008. The judges in the International Criminal Court (ICC), the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), the judges and prosecutors in the Chinese judicial organs, as well as the experts and scholars in the field of international criminal law and international humanitarian law at home and abroad, will be invited to attend the symposium, with a view to promoting the teaching and research of the ICC and international criminal law in China. The symposium will be divided into five Panels, each will focus on a specific issue concerning the ICC, namely,
• The Impact of the Rome Statute on the Domestic Law of the State Parties
• The Application of the Principle of Complementarity in the Rome Statute in Practices
• The Contribution of the Rome Statute to International Criminal Law
• The Legal Implications of the Rome Statute on the Non-State Parties
• The Cooperation between States and the ICC in the Enforcement of the Rome Statute
The symposium is to be held in the middle or at the end of September 2008, and will last two days. We call for papers from the experts or scholars, as well as judges or prosecutors, who are interested in international criminal law and international humanitarian law, at home and abroad. The topics of the papers are included in, but not limited to, the above five issues. The excellent papers will be collected to be published. The accommodation and meal will be covered by the organizers. Due to the budget limitation, transportation costs remain the responsibility of the participants who live outside China. However, the organizers will be responsible for the traffic expense within Beijing. Each submission should include and indicate the following:
• The author¡¯s name, institutional affiliation, contact information and email address
• The intended Panels
• The applicant¡¯s CV, including a list of publications
• The abstract
The languages are English or Chinese. Applications should be sent to Professor LING Yan (lingyan_cupl@163.com) and Dr. ZHU Lijiang (lijiangzhu@hotmail.com). Deadline for submission of proposals is 1 May 2008. The selection process results will be notified to all applicants by 1 June 2008. A provisional presentation paper must then be submitted by 1 September 2008 so that the panelists and organizers are adequately informed.
